Clean sweep the Illinois state legislature

State Journal Register

Friday, July 14, 2017  |  Letter to Editor  |  Bernie Moss

Legislature (56)

Not only has the Illinois state legislature failed to do its job for the past two years, the elected officials continue to take the easy way out by burdening their constituents with more taxes. Rather than taking an honest look at state-sponsored programs and endless vertical hierarchy of the state organizations, they have chosen to “pass the buck” onto the citizens of Illinois.

I understand it’s not easy to look into the positional structures and expenditures of programs and state organizations to find ways to save money without canceling the programs completely or eliminating services — but that’s your job as an elected state official. That is exactly what the people of this state were counting on them to do. They had two years to complete this task and they failed.

Not Democrats, not Republicans, the entire state legislature has failed. It is broken and not serving the needs of Illinois residents. I will not be voting for anyone currently serving in this state legislature and I encourage everyone in this state to do the same. Clean sweep the state legislature!

Anyone who has overcome incredible odds to accomplish a difficult task understands that you cannot achieve better results by doing the same thing over and over again. That is exactly what this state legislature has done and by keeping them in place we will get the same results — higher taxes, more debt and failed leadership.

I call for all Illinois citizens to clean sweep the state legislature!
