The Spring Valley wastewater treatment plant is on line, and city officials, engineers and politicians gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

The new plant is a modular activated treatment facility that features a blower building, sludge dewatering operation, laboratory, garage and lagoon improvements.

The city will host an open house today to show residents the new treatment plant, which is west of Route 89 and north of Barto Landing north of the Illinois River.

The open house also will include the new maintenance garage at the corner of Second Place and Taylor Street; and the water treatment plant, 10 Ponsetti Drive.

The spring 2013 flood damaged the old plant, and former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn awarded the city a $9.5 million grant to construct a new facility from the state’s Clean Water Initiative and Illinois Jobs Now! programs.
