Pritzker’s unfair tax proposal

Taxes, Graduated/Progressive

What Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker should be saying concerning his proposal for a tax change is: “We need an unfair tax to make up for our past transgressions of overspending.”

To have the gall to call his proposal a “fair” tax is totally a stretch of the imagination. Fair is when all people are treated equally. All people are entitled to equal protection under the law. All people are given the same rights, according to the constitution.

How then can one say the rich should pay more? As a matter of fact, they do pay more now. Think about it. Those who make $250,000 and more pay more income tax than those who make much less. They pay more in sales tax because they spend more. They usually live in a more expensive house and pay a higher property tax (and yet they only use about the same space as those who have a home and pay much less).

So at least let’s call this proposal what it really is, an “unfair” tax.
