Medical-marijuana dispensaries operated by Ascend/HCI Alternatives in Springfield and Collinsville have received licenses to sell adult-use marijuana Jan. 1 and beyond at those same sites, state officials said Tuesday.

The approval of “same-site” licenses for HCI at 628 E. Adams St. in downtown Springfield and at 1014 Eastport Plaza Drive in Collinsville brings the total number of same-site licenses in Illinois to 29.

In addition to opening adult-use dispensaries at the same site of their medical cannabis dispensaries, existing medical cannabis dispensaries are allowed to open a second site for adult-use sales at a different location.

Kathleen Olivastro, regional director for Ascend Wellness, said in a news release: “We are excited to be among the first to receive state approval to dispense cannabis products for adult-use in Illinois. While medical cannabis will continue to be a top priority for us at our original locations in Collinsville and Springfield, we look forward to welcoming customers with a different focus to our dispensaries in the new year.”
